Hover flies

I'm noticing a lot of hover flies around my plants but not regular flies. Anyone else experience this? Do the pollinate flowers?
 
Hover Flies and Normal flies will visit flowers, though Hover Flies tend to check out flowers more often.

In addition, the larvae eat aphids.
