How to properly remove leaves

When I remove leaves, it it best to simply pull them off, or is it best If I also physically cut off the stem that they are attached to?

I cut the stem with a scissors.

Scissors or pruning shears. It really doesnt matter

If you cut at the base of the leaf rather than at the leaf stem's base, that stem will eventually fall off, anyway. Might as well cut at the stem base rather than the leaf base, then the plant doesn't have to expend any effort trying to heal something that's going to fall off anyway.

I cut off some of the stems. The others fell off as soon as I touched them.
