Oven sterilization is not recommended by any government , educational institution food safety guidelines . In fact most expicitly warn against heating jars in ovens.

Most sites that advocate oven use will have some logic that a 225 f 105/107 c oven is higher that 100c/ 212f boiling point so it is just as effective which is demonstrably wrong.

Stick your hand into the centre if 100 c / 212 f oven for thirty seconds and you might get a bit uncomfortable, now think about sticking it in a pot of boiling water.

A little less painful experiment is to put an egg in a pot of boiling water, and one in preheated oven and wait 3 mins. Then crack each of them. Just make sure you do the oven one over a bowl or the sink.
