I get new dentures next Thursday!

Back in early January, I got dentures. Had some teeth pulled and got both uppers and lowers. It was hard adjusting to them - to start my mouth was so sore from the extractions that it hurt to have them in my mouth. They didn't fit good, so would not stay bonded. Developed a paranoia about wearing the uppers, even after I got use to the lowers. Little by little, I adapted - the soreness went away, I found better adhesive and thanks to forcing myself to sign up to read part of the Passion on Palm Sunday, forced myself to put the uppers in my mouth.

They still do not fit right, come loose of an evening, sometimes cause gagging and seem to be generally not fitting - I can feel myself putting pressure on them unless I work to keep them apart (the top does not "rest" on the bottom but seems to want to push on it).

So next Thursday, I don't just get them refitted, I get a completely new set of dentures. And this time, I won't be partially in agony and partially numb when I test fit them! They probably could have put them in upside down last time and I would have agreed - not this time. They will fit perfectly or they will redo them.

good to hear man, I cant imagine have to deal with that , must have been a real pain in the @$%! glad they are gonna get ya fixed up

BC,

It's healed! Only took about three days to stop torturing me when I moved and about five days until the pain was gone.

When you have teeth problems it pretty much ruins your whole day. Glad you're finally going to get them fixed. Stay on their butt until they get it right too Mike. Good luck man.

Here's to having working teeth. My dad loves fresh veggies and couldnt eat em for years because of bad dentures. They had to reconstruct his gums when he could finally afford new ones. Good luck with your new toofers!

My game plan is to be a royal PITA - really. I'm gonna take an ear of corn, an apple and a peanut butter sandwich with me to the fitting. I'll also take some Super Polygrip to reline them if they have to make adjustments. The bottom line is, I have to be able to each thing, without a problem, or they get adjusted. I'm not going to accept "you'll have to get use to how to eat them." Fine, tell me how I need to bite into an ear of corn or apple. But if the dentures come loose, I'm going to insist they be adjusted.

If I have to pay two grand for good teeth I can eat with, they sure as hell better be teeth I can with and not cause me any pain.'

I got them and they are a much better fit. My mouth is getting sore - I was told that is to be expected for the first day or three as my jaws, muscles, etc., adjust to a different shape. With the old dentures, if I didn't use copious amounts of Super Polygrip, the bottom plate would float around when talking - not with these. My goals: bite into an ear of corn on Sunday and an apple on Monday.

There is a difference, one most people never think about. Normally, one's front teeth hang out a few cm further than the bottom ones, the old ones didn't. This should make biting into sandwiches more effective. I don't feel like I am gnashing my teeth now - the ones at the back meet better.

I've been able to bite into a steak tonight - without any Polygrip holding my dentures in place. Things will only get better (crossing fingers!)
