im betting nervous about my habs

im getting nervous about my habs

my plants are at good height beside 2 or 3 plants...my buddy already harvested... im still growing september is coming quick....this second atempt of the garden is going well but im thinking cutting close to cold climates..my first 53 hab plants got eaten all in one night thats why I got more well the last they had lol another 53 and a 50 foot chain link fence

what do you mean your 1st 53 habs plants got eaten ? do you mean your 1st harvest ? I'm thinking like you are right now granted I have some more time than you (since your in canada) but its been raining here for a couple days & the forcast is rain for 3 more days plus a little cooler than normal (I wonder if we'll get a true normal winter this year ? which we've been falling short on for 15 years), heck my chile plants are starting to turn yellow for being over watered so I put them in the shed to dry off & until the rain stops. but the plants that didnt have any pods on them I left them outside because the chances of getting anything from them is nil in this time of season(might even throw them away soon?). soon it'll be the old routine of bringing them in/out until its to cold, & then just hang them & hope for the best.

What I meant was the first attempt at the garden this year everything I planted was eaten right down to the stock this spring so I went out and bought 50 feet in chain link fence then I replanted everything..a whole garden in one night!!!
talk about a discouraging start lol

Get a dog too. That may seem extreme, but they are great pets and they don't eat peppers. Just the smell of my dogs deterrs deer and squirrels even though the dogs are only out 4-5 times a day. Just thinking for you! I would be beyond pissed to lose 53 plants! Damn, I may overnight you a ripe hab. You might want to look into lights too. Even cheap lights would keep your best few plants alive long enough to ripen some pods, good lights could keep plants producing through the winter.

What's eating your habs?

We figured 1 of 2 things...muskrats or skunks...mind you since I put the fence all is good..and on an update..I got to go to my garden today after work...tonnes of smaller peppers a few full sized ones and one pepper thats starting to turn.... and my japs suddenly blew up in size..think ill be ok..lol I hope hehehe

I guess I misunderstood your 1st post, yea thats harsh to have that happen early in the season. but at least you now have a fence around the garden to prevent this from happening again (if its from a small mammal?)
the pods must of not been hot most mammals wont touch HOT chiles.

as for the dog, if the dog is a outside dog then yea the deer will stay away, but if its a inside dog then deer wont be affraid of the dog smell (they smell this alot) only if the dog chases them or if the dog is barking at them & they see the dog 1st hand. anyways most times the deer will come to your yard or garden at night & feast on the garden or your flowers. you'd need a 6'-8' fence to prevent deer from getting in your garden.

my origional garden had 53 habs 13 japs 13 crimson reds(never tried them before) and 13 waxed hungarians(same thing never tried them before either) I salveged 3 jap plants and the rest was replanted..grew them back from stems.. that im proud of... considering ive never had that much of a green thumb in the past....after all of this im hooked...

Get a dog too

my cousins dog dude is right across from the garden...i have yet to hear him bark lol its funny I was in the garden tonight and he almost barked well attempted.. my cousin and I laughed at him asking what was that lol such a quiet dog...wish my lab was like that at times lol

Maybe I attribute too much to the dogs, but... they are definitely indoor dogs, we have a 4 ft fence, and the deer never go into the back yard. We have lots of deer around. They munch the hostas in the front yard, but they never go into the back yard with the garden(where the doge go), even though they are frequently in our next door neighbors back yard where they don't have a dog.

My dog is tied up due to several porcupine incidents, and the deer know exactly how far his rope reaches. One day I'll give him an extra ten+ feet of rope for a nice surprise.

If it's skunks, you really don't want your dog out there, do you?

I live in fear of the day Matilda meets a skunk. Not a doubt in my mind that she'll want to play skunk proctologist, and I don't think the skunk will be too pleased about that.
