Importing seeds

Can I ask a question about importing seeds in this forum here or am I in the wrong place? I figure that this is the growers forum, and growers need seed right? If I'm in the wrong place, by all means, don't hesitate to move me... :)

Any Aussies here have any experience with importing seed from overseas? More specifically, the UK? I stumbled upon chileseeds.co.uk and have found a decent lot of seeds I've been trying to track down. While I've heard good things about the company [EDIT: Wait, I jumped the gun... I've heard the bad too], I'm not sure on my chances of getting the seeds through customs. I have heard that smaller quantities have more of a chance of getting through... does that hold any truth? If so, I've narrowed my selection down to eight varieties... reckon the odds are in my favour?

Could always test the waters I guess and go for one or two packs initially and see how I go...

Dunno, I'm open for wisdom, opinion or suggestion......

Oh wait, how did I end up here... Hot Peppers/Seeds? I thought I was in the Growing forum. Oh well, seems like this may be the right place too hahaha

They can get through as long as they are labeled Capsicum Chinense not only common name but also botanical name. Look at Thehippyseedcompany.com, better service and chileseeds tends to BS people just to make some money.

Cool Kyle. I've wanted to order from THSC for a while just so I can say I have seeds from that crazy bastard:lol: He is like the Godfather of superhots. A real chilihead icon.

Yep just make sure to get the yellow 7 pod, I am going to grow the this year but they seem like the best strain out there.

I will give it a go. I will probably just end up killing the seeds cause I suck worse than anything has ever sucked before at growing anything, but I will give it my level best. Thanks for the suggestion.

THSC... my number one stop for seeds already hahaha. Awesome service, awesome seed. Neil = legend.

However, I'm on a mission to track down some of the Aji... and Norteno and Colorado (available at Chileseeds.co.uk) are both on my list. Yellow Bhut sounds like a goer and I'm intrigued by the "Spanish strain" Naga Morich... (BS you reckon?)

Already a step ahead hahahha

I'm right there with you ;)

I have ordered a shitload (~$300 over 3 orders) through chileseeds.co.uk, chilli seeds are no problem, they are allowed to be imported by customs, tomato seeds though, different story ... I had two batches make it through, the last one was intercepted, tomato seeds ceased, but chilli seeds got through. There is a list on the Deperartment of Agriculture and Fisheries website (i think) that says chillis are allowed to be imported.

Chileseeds pissed me off, after the money I have spent with them you would think they would look after their customers better (Unlike Neil who is sitting at the number 1 spot for customer service), get ready for a huge rant in a weeks time if they don't sort their shit out.

Hmmm, so maybe chileseeds.co.uk isn't the best (to say the least), but have you ever been totally rorted by them? This Yellow Bhut seems to be a bit - even more likely *alot* - of BS. Have you ever ordered something from them and found it to be something totally different than what they claimed?

Also, do you (or anyone else) know of any good seed dealers out there offering unusual or hard-to-gets?

As for Neil being number one... so far, and highly unlikely my opinion will change, couldn't agree more! Neil has been an absolute legend.

I bought some seeds from http://www.thechilliman.biz/

They arrived very promptly to the UK. Dunno about germination rates/trueness yet as they've only been in the soil about 6 days :D

You shouldn't have customs problems either... (or do you have interstate shenanigans?)

Wow! I never realized how many seed sellers there are out there! Let me know somewhere down the track how the seeds go :)

Anyone else know the quality of seed from thechilliman.biz?

Also Alistair, you might be able to help me here (being from the UK and all) : have you ever ordered from nickys-nursery.co.uk? If so, what's the verdict? Their wide range of Indian varieties has caught my attention.

As I posted over here I've not had a problem with nickys nursery (I've ordered from them a couple of times). Germination rates have been fine & seeds have grown into the correct plants

That German/Spanish site you mentioned on the other forum is going off! Massive selection! The seeds you got from them, what's the verdict there? True? Viable?

I would spend hours on there trying to narrow down my selection! There's no way I could do it... I would end up with 20+ varieties of seed coming my way! hahhaha
