For those heading down this year heres the latest update on situation:
G'day all, well it's been one hellava 24hrs, It is carnage in Gippsland and the chilli god looked after us here, and I tell you I was checking the ol pants at one stage, the winds were ??? I guess you would've had to been here to see, the wind's were howling in the wrong direction from us, I'm sorry for our local people who did cop it but, you can never know what or when your time is up.
Then the fire chief came in and said get out now or get ready for hell, I was here by myself and i tell you I was 50/50, it was thick black smoke and no idea what was hapening around the farm, but in those 10 minutes the gales changed to another direction and then gfuess who turns up again, I'd lent geoff my van to pick up other things and he was gone for over an hour, so, we did what ever we could and had a beer and waited, and took photos of the red glow in large sections from left to right.
This side of Jindivick didn't get touched but Labertouche, Jindi West, Drouin West etc are like, wow, burnt to the shit house.
We are now sending all our gate and raffle etc donations to the fire fund, man we were so lucky, it's scary, we had the water tanks outside evacuated the kids, lost all communications only to find out later that they were in just as much danger if not more where we sent them.
As for fire bugs, they should be shot, no do-gooders should pipe up when they catch these (*^$* S,, they are scum, you will see when you come through what's left of Jacksons Track, it'll put chills down your spine. Fire leaping 100 - 200 ft into the air and gusts upto 90 plus kms
A 70 year old farmer (Jindi West) was lost in the fire storm but was found a bit later huddled in the back of the ute, wrapped in soaking blankets, he filled the back of the ute up for wetting blankets but when the fire turned he dove into it , this saved him from being toasted.
I helped Geoff from BHM, Bloody hot mate get all he could out of his place and he also took some incredible photos, we both went out this morning and got some more but was stunned at the damage to the whole place, he may even want to bring out a new BHM sauce.
I'm going to see the CFA and Police tomorrow morning just to make sure they don't want the festival cancelled, at this stage we are going for it, I'm also going to see our bank manager to get a fire fund happening, a lot of good people around here have lost a lot, not to mention 1000's across Victoria.
We cannot get any phone calls, the power has just come back on, most roads are still blocked off, but should reopen by Tuesday.
Our condolences to the families who lost the 40 plus loved ones across Victoria., I only wish it was the pricks who started it off.
