Hi everyone!
Last year I gave growing hot peppers a try for the first time and managed after quite a few setbacks decently well, by late summer I had a pretty nice Carolina Reaper that gave me plenty of fruit which later on became great Christmas presents, it will probably last most of them (and me) a few years I think...
But for this year I wanted to grow more with a larger variety and not only superhots. I also became a dad this summer so had to "quarantine" the area to make sure she never ends up crawling over to one and taking a bite later on.. So what I ended up with is a grow tent (100x100x180 cm) in my home office, not the prettiest thing and we're probably the 1% that is actually growing something else then illegal stuff in these.. For light I bought a Mars Hydro TSW2000 LED (~400W) and initially I tried creating air flow with some diy 120mm CPU-fans.
At first my plan was to go hydro with a RDWC-system, but found all the air & waterpumps I bought was waaay to loud if I was going to sit and work just right next to it. So next idea was instead going with the Kratky-method. It started off ok but comparing to 2-3 plants which I had no containers for and potted in soil the grow rate was almost nonexistent. After a few weeks plants started showing everything from curled leaves to mold & root rot.. So I finally pushed the reset button and repotted everything to soil instead and almost everyone has managed to come back somewhat to life.. So here I am almost two months later with battle scarred plants and perhaps less growth then expected but at least they are alive and kicking.
Here's the line up for the 2019/2020 season:
Rwanda Red
7pot Brain strain yellow
Jalapeno
Habanero Lemon
Aji Lemon Drop
Not really sure what's up with the leaves, its been standing right next to the Jolokai which have had the same symptoms from the start. I'm hoping it's just heat stress so I've bought a larger fan instead of the 120mm cpufans I had before which didn't really do the job at all.
Black Scorpion Tongue
Bhut jolokia white
Have these weird curly leaves since the start. Not sure what the problem is or if it might be something off genetic?
I'm on and off if I should just throw it away and start over so I haven't cared to put it in a larger pot yet. It has however started to flower like crazy so i'll probably just let it be and see what happens..
Aji Dulce Amarillo
As you can guess I'm starting to struggle with space already so my plan is to try and graft over a few plants over to the 7pot instead later on. Also currently trying to fight of Fungus gnat with nematodes and fly traps, there's always something..
