wanted Looking for seeds to grow large pumpkins

Anybody grow large pumpkins and save seeds?
I might just shell out some big dollars for some good seeds next season, but I thought I'd check here first.

I was gonna buy some when we went to the Pumpkin Show this past Oct. Next year I'm gonna get some (I know it's a while to wait but I'll get ya some too) In the mean time I'm gonna check with the local seed suplliers....

Here's the record setter From this last Pumpkin Show (Circleville,Ohio)

New Show Record : 1,635.5 lbs. (how's that for a pumpkin??)

Large enough?

I just ordered some Jack Be Little seeds a couple of days ago. Would you happen to know the plant spacing on these pumpkins? I am curious as to how much running room I need to give them.

Sorry, couldn't tell you... never grown them before and the pack says nothing. As I am currently having major possum troubles where I am, I have sown mine in small pots (which I can easily bring inside at night) until I figure out just what I can do with them. Everything I sow in the ground gets munched down as soon as it breaks surface. :banghead:

In the past when I've grown other pumpkins, I've just popped them in the garden and hoped for the best. Thankfully they've always grown away from everything else.

Potawie, have you checked out the Howard Dill web site?

http://www.howarddill.com/

They have seeds for sale and Dill was a multiple time world champion for largest pumpin. Their farm is in Windsor, NS, I took my family there this fall to pick our pumpkins. I picked up some seeds for next year but they're just for jack o'lantern's and pies.

I grew some of Dill's pumpkins last year again in memory or Howard Dill. I believe there are lots of good seeds out there (including Dill's), they are just bloody expensive
