wanted Looking for some Datil pods

If this is the wrong forum please relocate. I looked and am having difficulty navigating these forums. Tonight I ordered some pure strain Datil seeds from Raymond Powers. I want to compare his pure Datils to my Bakers creek Datils I currently have growing. But because I live in Iowa these seeds will get planted for the 2026 season. Nothing wrong with planning early right? 😉 I was wondering if anyone here is growing any pure strains like the true St Augustine variety (yellow with the pointy tips) and if I could get a few pods shipped to me? I’m willing to pay. I really would like to see what the difference between my variety and a true variety in a taste test without having to wait a year. Hit me up if so.

Good idea. 😃

I have my fingers crossed that the pepper we are growing is a true Datil.
The taste is rumored to be fruity & hot, I hope this is the real one.

if not I will order some seeds for next season. 😃
Where did your seeds come from? The only Datil I ever knew existed until recently was my baker creek Datils. Prior to being given some of their seeds I had never heard of a Datil.

I got seeds from My Nephew in Fla. He claims they grow wild in the state.
He sent me 1 dried up pod that 1 seed managed to start, Kids 😄

So far it's looks the part. Next question is. How does it taste

Thank you @Marturo
I still haven't tried Datils
They must be special

They are. The first year I grew them, I was also growing some other heavy hitters flavor-wise, and the Datil ended up being top tier. I think they were neck and neck with my original TFMs. Here's my review of the 2005 season from back then, and you can see my comments on them. Note that the list isn't ranked in order, just randomly listed.

Yeah that looks about right for a Datil!

Datil-one of the most underestimated chineses in my opinion. Wonderful, fruity flavor with smoky undertones and high heat on a very tall (>3), upright and prolific plant. Standard season length for a chinense. Another chinense that is easy to become a favorite. Pendant fruit matures to orange.

Sounds like you really enjoyed the Datil.
My wife & I both did not like the Baker creek Datil too much heat little flavor. Scotch bonnets being my Numero uno for flavor & heat
the Datil is also claimed to have a fruity flavor with decent heat.

Yup, the true Datil, not the Baker Creek one, was the one that I grew years ago, and it was really, really good. I think you'll enjoy it!
