Is a slightly moldy root bad? It has a little layer of white fuzz on it.

What did you put in the soil or hydro? Or did the soil specify that it contained any microbes? It could be beneficial, could also be bad. Can you post a pic?

it is just the root. did the seed just start to sprout?

Germinated hydro (paper towel method), put in soil, the white thingy coming out of the seed is what I'm talking about.

That white "thingy" poking out of the seed will get white "fuzz" (root hairs) on it, as it trys to root itself.

Bad roots look brown or black. White is an indication of nice and healthy roots and fuzz is a bonus .

The white fuzz = root hairs not mould.  Root hairs = normal.  As has been posted - bad roots are not white but grey/black/brow: basically dead!
