Music and food were in abundance in two Rio Grande Valley cities Saturday as residents gathered for the Fiesta de La Feria and the Smokin’ on the Rio barbecue cook-off in Mercedes.

What a coinky dinky. I spent my high school years in La Feria many many eons and light years ago. Haven't been back since. Back then the big show was the Mercedes Livestock Show and County Fair. Big hoohah and much ado about it. It was fun. BBQ back then was also about goat, specifically..cobrito. Tasty stuff.
