I am not a topper so let nature take its course ... plants look too healthy to mess with ... chillies are best left alone they don't need fussing

Topping promotes all lower branches to become dominant instead of just the main stalk.....more dominant branches = more pod production and higher yields.

Chop the top and watch them explode. I would wait till they get about a foot tall and make a V. This is just my 2 cents but if you wait a while it should delay them some and hopefully by the time they start to grow more they can go in the ground.  I'm gonna start some in a few weeks and keep them in the greenhouse.

Where are ya'll from, I'm in Lafayette.

If you want to build a cheap greenhouse I have a source for really cheap greenhouse plastic.

Plants look great, and you have a great head start on the up coming season! I'm in zone 9b according to the :

USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map
And lately (last 2 winters) the low side of the temps haven't been hitting us. I made the hoop houses 2 seasons ago, and for me they were too hard to control the heat when the sun hit them. Once I retire and have all day here to manage them, I will use them again. My background is growing mainly tomatoes , and others since 1982, that's where I shine. Peppers are a real challenge here. I put maters in March 1st, and they excel, in fact they kick butt. Peppers, are another animal. I should mention I grow in the dirt, not pots, but am migrating to them for reasons I'm about the mention. Here, peppers have to go in around April 1st. Or, they sit there and don't grow (if planted earlier). But....by then the heat is coming on and they look great but don't produce as the super hot weather hits and they don't set. Not like the peeps up North do. They make me look really bad...LOL.

So this season after a dismal spring grow I went with a fall grow, and they're doing OK, still. But I'm hoping I make it happen (large harvest) before a frost.

So back to your head start. That should do you really well. This next season I'm starting this next weekend, it's supposed to rain so I'll plant my seeds. And hopefully have robust plants to get things going in the spring.

One thing, if they don't produce in the spring and you have the want to keep them going through the heat of summer, they will produce as it cools.

Good luck!

i topped 2 of the habs  they doing good. they were getting close to a foot tall.

i top, i lst, i fim, i bend and tie...i do all crazy type things to plants...lol

been adding to the hoop bed soil, rabbit poop mostly, it got a while to go.

i really need to get my electric to it, hope by next week...paydays tomorrow (eagle takes a crap)

yo  rajun gardener ...i used a 4 mil plastic from lowes...is that a no go?  and i be in carencro.

It won't last long. You can go to Live Oak Gardens in Jefferson Island and get used plastic. They grow tropicals and remove the plastic every Spring when it warms up and sell it, $15 for a 40'x80' piece. It will last 3 years. I have some on my redneck greenhouse now but I'm growing hydro tomatoes and over wintering a few peppers.

Now that's an impressive set-up!!! Very nice job.

Go check out the Carencro Country Christmas vendors in the hall tomorrow, look for Little Bits of Home jelly, that's my sister, she has pepper jelly and make sure to take a big taste of that chow chow. She'll have pickled mirlitons too but if you go make sure to try the pecan pepper jelly.

That is a sweet little set up, What are the floor dimensions of it? I may use it as a template for my build when I put one up as wind destroyed my canvas on my greenhouse. Im going to guess about 8x12??

That's 12' x 16' using 2'x8' 4x4 post 1' in the ground. It was just a quick easy method to do and it worked out nice.
