New Guy to Pepper Gardening

Hi just found the site in my pursuit of more info regarding my Tabasco pepper plants and discovered a entirely new element in gardening. I looked at some of the delicious recipes and can't wait to try them out with some peppers from my garden but I'll use ingredients from our local farmers market for now. I live in middle Tn where we have a long growing season (well, longer than Chicago). I planted 2 Tabasco plants but after 2 months I have some really pretty plants but no sign on any peppers. I'll figure it out but I'm thinking I interfered with the pollination somehow. Maybe I damaged the flower while watering.
Any way I probably wont add to the garden this year rather learn what I can about the pepper, and I see there is a lot to learn, and dedicate a much larger percentage of the garden the the peppers next spring.

Welcome from Ohio. If you have only grew Tabasco Peppers, you'll soon be in the 100 club. That is you will find that you won't have enough room to grow all of the varieties that you want to.

Again welcome to the boards.

Hello and Welcome from Atlanta! Those Tabasco will be fine ,in a month or so you will be swamped with peppers!

Welcome "neighbor" from Lake Constance, Germany and Estill Springs, Franklin County, TN, where my Dad in law grew up!

BTW: I love tabasco peppers! One of my favorite varieties!

Checked the plants this morning and eureka there are little peppers about an inch long on one plant. Their off and running should be a lot of fun. Thanks for the warm reception. :mouthonfire:

welcome from the Philippines!

i'm new to gardening myself!

I'm thinking this is going to be a lot of fun. Surprised to see so many nations represented on the forum. I wonder how complicated seed swaps might be. I suppose there might be some possibility.

I have some great memories of a 2 year residence in Manila and in the northern provinces. I made some dear friends and loved the country very much. That was quite a few years ago, late 50's. It was such nice place to be. Miss the food a lot and my old friends. Are you native to P.I.?

Yes i am a local.I have swapped seeds with quite a few members of this forum. Folks from australia, usa, brazil, and hopefully many more.

It's good that you loved being here in my country. Thank you for the praise.

Wouldn't have imagined there was such enthusiasm involved in pepper growing until I started looking into it and like I mentioned it was just for the purpose of learning a little about Tabasco peppers. Then one thing led to another and I discovered there are many different Tabasco's just in that family alone.

When I joined the the forum my 2 plants (I think they're La.) had not yet produced after 60 days. Now 3 days ago I saw my first peppers and more every day. They are the prettiest things I've ever grown. I took a magnifier a took a close look at the flowers and they are just beautiful. The peppers are growing upside down  or is it down side up?

I can see where all the excitement comes from.

Its probably too late this year to plant again but next spring I'd like to put in some varieties of Tabasco's. Would someone recommend a reliable source for starter plants. I've found one source on line. I'd like to know that the plants are coming from good stock.

Thanks Tom
