In the Fall, I trimmed my malagueta plant way back to a little stump. I was surprised to see new growth from under the soil and nothing on the stump.
Next, the aphids did a fair bit of damage so I trimmed it back again and once more new shoots started from underground and this time one on the now cut-back stump.
I have never seen so much growth on a pepper plant start from beneath the soil. I wonder if it more likely with a C. frutescens. If this plant stays healthy, I'm sure it will become a huge bush by fall.
