Vermicompost and Pythium Suppression

Ever wondered how vermicomposts can prevent crop diseases? This video explains how microbes present in vermicompost protect cucumber seeds from infection by the plant pathogen Pythium aphanidermatum. Animations and microscopy footage show seed colonizing bacteria from vermicompost interrupting the chemical signaling between the germinating seed and the pathogen's motile zoospores.

The seed colonizing microbes from the castings interrupt the scent or chemical signal of the seed thus not allowing the pythium to find it. Its a good example of using beneficial microbes to colonize an area so nothing else does.

There are a number of choices for seed germination like using a sterilant like H2O2, or an enzyme like hygrozyme ect.

thanks for that vid!!! I like those type of videos if you have anymore post them!!!!
