Newish member SF bay area

I think I actually joined a year or two ago but I just got an email saying I had a post or they were going to delete me.

I love some of the milder more flavorful peppers like poblano, pasilla negro, mulato, red jalapeño.

Hoping someday soon to actually grow some chilhuacle negro. Tried last year and they all started out great and then died after a few weeks.

I also got some Rocoto rojo from a neighbor who got seeds from her mother in Mexico. I eat the peppers and save the seeds I am trying to grow those again also this year.

Welcome I was born in the City by the Bay  :)  Lived in the Bay Area for 40 years and now live in the Central Valley of California. You have great weather there to grow peppers.

Welcome Sonja. I'm originally from SF. I think it would be awesome to grow chilhaucle negro - I'd be making mole all the time!

Welcome to THP.

You can grow rocoto year round in SF

Yes.  I just got some seeds from my neighbors for red and orange/yellow varieties that neighbors are growing from seeds they got from family in Mexico.  None of them even knew what they were.

Have you tried growing them?

Thanks @hogleg.  I will likely take you up on your offer for advice on the rocotos.  I love the idea of a pepper I can plant once and harvest for 10-15 years.  My neighbors is like a small tree - over 8 feet high and very productive.

I would love to see a pic of an 8 year old rocotto plant/tree.
