Of fresh potting mix! It has been months since opening a bag of new mix and the earthy odor is heavenly!
I like to start my seeds in something like a 10" octagonal plastic tray then once they get about 3-4" tall, transplant them into 3" wide, 3.5" deep containers. Discovered if I filled the cells I need with potting soil, completely saturate the mix, let it dry for a day or so, then it is easy to transplant the small seedlings. Use my finger to poke make a hole in the dirt, stick the seedling in, then push the mix back around it. Found I can do a flat (18 plants) in about five minutes and have a 95% survival rate.
Hopefully, I'll have 28 plants ready to go in 11 days.
