Thank you. I try to learn something every season. This year I am concentrating on soil. Trying to understand what makes up truly healthy living soil. Received a couple of books recently that will help that.
You should get in touch with Stickman. Rick has delved
deep into soil culture and pepper growing. Also Pepper Guru.

Also, read anything by Jean Jevons (hope spelling is right) all about the
French intensive and biodynamic methods of gardening.

I love the smell of aged compost. So full of life. Potential. It's time to amend soil here and I can't be more excited for the season ahead. Jalapeno and habanero are mostly germinated and setting first leaves. A few superhots have sprouted. March 1st is our plant out date so, not much time left. Today I torched a few of the beds. Then layered coffee grounds mixed with kelp meal, compost then sterile straw. Still have a lot to do but I feel good that at least I got a good start.

PSF, why do you add the straw? Ground cover for weed suppression, aesthetics, ... ? I don't know whether you have a snail/slug problem up there in the bayou, but they tend to like that type of environment.

It's ground cover for weed suppression. I treat for slugs there's nothing I can do about slugs they're terrible in the south. they are only an issue with young plants and I do most of my starts in the greenhouse. I've never had a problem with slugs on my pepper plants

Looking just marvelous, Jerret

Very uniform growth habit!
