Pepper Sprout Farm fall/winter 2020

A little late starting this thread but Id like to share what we have started so far. We live in Louisiana zone 8a. Almanac has our first freeze around the 15th of November. However we are currently having high temperatures in the upper 70s and lows in the mid-60s. In our raised bed we have cabbage, lettuces, kale, Pak choy, brussel sprouts, greens, chard, and beets. In the ground we have carrot, celery, garlic, turnips, more greens and various other brassicas. We started seeds indoors in July and planted out begining of October.

Here's a look at some of the things still holding on from the summer garden. Blueberry tomatoes, Brad's atomic grape, travelers tomatoes, striped eggplant, cucumbers and it is almost citrus season.

Garlic was planted rather aggressively this year. Pushing the limits of compact growing. Each bulb is about 4" from the next. We did this last year in rows with great success so I am trying a grid pattern this year to maximize space

What variety of garlic is that?

I've been curious to try garlic out one of these years, but haven't done anything more than play with planting store-bought garlic for grins.

This year we Ordered ours from ufseeds.com variety is Italian red. We purchase it in September for an early November planting. Only my second season growing garlic. We bought from a local nursery last year and had great luck.

Harvested a bowl of baby kale for this morning's breakfast of kale, eggs, and potatoes. I saute the chopped kale with a little bit of veg broth and cayenne pepper flake.

We planted kale mostly to make mashed potatoes: potatoes and half its weight of kale (boiled), with a little butter. Combines well with sausage, or bacon. I made a rapid search for English language recipes, but in the US they apparently have the custom to add a lot of cream.

I am not a meat eater. However, the potatoes look lovely.
