Plant Update

Well I've made a few changes to my growing space and have snapped a few pics. The old setup was very temporary and was kinda shaky. I've since upgraded the stand to an industrial shop shelving unit, added two floro banks per shelf and have covered the whole thing with heavy glossy cardboard. It holds a little bit of the heat in and allows for much better access to the plants. I can now fit 4 trays across and get at each one as I please. I've also received my order for Ancho Real, Serrano, El Jefe, Chili Grande, the Ring of Fire peppers. They've all been planted and I'm now eagerly awaiting the sprouts :) (you can see the heated Jiffy tray on the bottom shelf of the new setup)

The old temporary setup.

My new setup with half of the cardboard off (just to give you and idea). The lights are raised and lowered by putting the hook up or down a link. The shelves can also be raised and lowered by moving them to different holes in the uprights.

Each set of lights has a Phillips SunStick, a Phillips grow light, and at least one Phillips Daytime Delux. I figure I'm able to get enough light as well as cover off the entire spectrum.

Progress so far with the little guys

I had the lights about 2" away from the lights, but I noticed that the leaves were really curling up. Once I moved them up, the leaves opened up.

Yeah, my lemons did that. I had to give them some mid day shade to get the leaves to uncurl - and they were already outside for several weeks.

Oh yeah - and great looking new housing or the babies.

good looking new setup Blister and the plants look happy...

do you have a fan in the box to "exercise" the seedlings? I have found that a fan blowing on the seedlings a couple times a day helps strengthen the stems...

I don't, but I had just read that AJ. How big of a fan would I need? I understand that it shouldn't hurricane force, but it would have to be big enough to get the job done.

I got a small fan out of a water fountain that works really well Nothing big is needed really unless you have a large green house
