indoor-growing Pot size for indoor growing

How large pots should I aim for as the final size for indoor growing? I see many of you use 5 gal, but seems like oll of those are for outdoor use. And it seems a bit brutal :) Do I really need 5 gal, or will half of that be enough? Does this depend on how much I prune the plants?

Beware of POTAWIE, he uses 10 gallons+...
I'm using liters, but my final pots are something like 6.5-8 gallons, depends on the plant. you could use smaller... a lot smaller actually, but smaller pots mean smaller plants.

I didn't grow indoors after planting out last year, but all my plants outdoors went into 5 gallon nusery pots (actually looked more like 4 gallon)...The smaller varieties did very well in these but the larger varieties that did not grow roots out of the bottom of the pots got rootbound by August/September and didn't produce as well as the others...

Are you strictly growing indoors or are the plant going outside? I think the size of the pot would depend on how big you want the plant to get and how long you are growing them.
If you are going to prune your plants then you can prune the roots at the same time which will save you from having to upgrade to a bigger pot.

Ok, so the disadvantage of using too small pots is less pods? If that's the case, I can settle for smaller pots this year, as I will have far more pepper than I can eat if all my plants produce

This is the first time I grow peppers, and I'm already up to 9 varieties, with 1-3 plants of each. But that's just me in a nutshell, when I find a hobby, I go all in from day one :)

Strictly indoors i guess. The average 24 hour temperature for july and august 12 °C (53 °F) respectively, and the night time temp in july can get as low as 5 °C (41 °F). Don't sound like great outdoor climate for peppers, does it?

Most of the northern growers I know all have some sort of greenhouse or coldframe so they can make use of the near 24 hours of sun in the summer instead of paying for lighting, but I'm sure you've thought of that:)
If you're growing year round indoors, the size of pot will have to keep increasing as the plant gets bigger, unless you do pruning.

There will be a greenhouse at some point, as both me and my gf want one. But there are so many other things that has to be fixed with our house first, so maybe next year. Pruning it is then. Don't want monster plants anyway, as I want room for as many varieties I can fit within 2 sq meter.
