Potassium and fruit set

Forgive me for being new and not just wanting to put things in the ground and hoping they do just fine on thier own but...I have a question about something i read earlier about Potassium or banana peels around the base of a plant promoting fruit set. Just thought this would be the place to find an answer from people who have more experience with this. Would this mean more blossoms or more fruit, or both? Or would this just mean an overall more sort of guarantee of fruit after the bloom if that makes any sense? If it really makes a difference at all...

No the banana peels have to be first compost or placed at the bottom of the hole then planted on top of them.

But the potassium could increase the blossom and fruit production right?
