Propogator Suggestions

Which propogator do you use to germinate your seeds.

I am looking for a new propogator, Ideally, one which has complete temperature control up to 32 degrees C or more. I don't want to spend a fortune though.

I was looking at this one possibly, anyone have any experience of these...

Anybody have any recommendations. I am in the UK by the way.

Cheers.

That looks like a goodone but don't cheap out(like I did), do get the thermostat controlled unit.

I bought one similar to the 2067, without thermostat and I am always farting around putting cardboard spacers under the seeds so they don't get to hot. I have had it for about 10 years and bought it onsale, regular price was $39.00(Can), on sale for $19.00. Last week it germinated one fatalii and it looks like it cooked one(they are test seeds for my homemade DWC). I have germinated in both soil and rockwool and it all comes down to your seed quality and consistant heat - that being said, I have tossed seeds in just regular pot with soil and put it into the sun and that has worked too.

Until recently I used a technique I found on here.
You might want to buy a digital thermometer with a probe.
Simply fill an old electric fry pan with sand, place your seed tray/box/whatever on top. Set the pan on low and adjust until you get the right temp. The sand works as an excellent heat buffer as it holds a lot of heat, meaning the seeds are unaffected by the thermostat going on and off. Remember, the sand holds heat well and takes a while to heat up, so be prepared to take a couple of days to get the heat right before you add seeds.

Otherwise, I was recently given a heat cord from tooninoz, which he just places under a couple of plastic tubs adds newspaper, then seed tray, then more newspaper. The heat cord is the type you use with reptiles. I think he said this one was 15W.

Cheers,
Lachlan.

i just use a heating mat with one of these.

just ram the probe into w/e medium you are starting seeds in.

I don't know how many plants you are going to want to grow but here is a link to a thread about my setup...

AJ,

I think that the best thing I am going to use (cheap) is a YOGURT maker which I bought from Baby'srus. I think it cost me about 25 Dollars and it maintains a steady temp of about 32 Degrees Centigrade.

You can use it batch by batch. Sprouting should be within 72 hours to 96 hours.

I am gonna try it out one of these days with Bhuts seeds or Bydgi seeds.
