Purple Thunder / Bhut Jolokia x (PdN x Bonda Ma Jacques)

I have decided to start a dedicated Grow Log for
the Purple Thunder Bhut Jolokia hybrid.

It made its first appearance in 2015:
"This coloration might be the result of the intense
light on these red Bhuts, but only 2/6 show the trait.
If it is a cross, the only purple-y plant near the bhut
was Trippa's Mystery Cross. All of these seeds from
the same pod:"

To my impoverished palate, all the PT varieties are super hot.
I have no idea if the Scoville Units, but they have to be up there
in the stratosphere somewhere.

Thanks for growing these out sharing those pics, the oily interior
of those pods definitely gives me the willies!
This one has definitely earned a spot in the green room.. Doesn't even need to be cut back. I know it didn't care much for the indoors before, so I'm hoping to improve that this year with some humidity. I hope to get around to the white version this winter, but we'll see.. Turns out I'm still not good at making these fall cuts.
These two should be isolated, if anyone wants to grow the F8.. I'll have the seeds stashed in the hoard until then.

Glad we'll get to see your continued work with these,
and thanks for putting the offer of those seeds out there!

Managed to eke out a few more pods from the big
F4 Purple Thunder yellow/caramel. May get a couple
more if the weather holds, but this could be it.

The longest pod is about 3.5” long.

Those F4 Purple Thunder yellow/caramel are consistent sized pods and a good length with good hot parentage and grown by a wise green fingered Gardner.😉
I agree with most of what you said, Sir David. Only a few
runty pods on that F4 and the rest basically all like these.
The hot parentage definitely comes through, probably
more than is comfortable!

Other than that, you are too kind, my friend! Hope the
midlands weather is giving you a break. From what I
gather, the isles have gotten a pretty good pounding
lately.

BTW, my direct ancestors came from Llandewi Brefi.
We visited there in 2015 and I'd really like to go back
someday. I loved walking the paths in the countryside,
so beautiful and tranquil.

Well it’s about time I chimed in!! But don’t blame me, blame this texas heat!! Finally it’s cooling down and the Purple Thunder Yellows are loading up!! I had some volunteer seedlings pop up in the pot from the parent that didn’t make it overwintering due to the freeze last winter, lost everything. But these guys are hearty and was graced with 7 seedlings all dark purple. Pods are bigger and gnarlier than last year. Hoping to get some as Gnarly as Guru. Here are some pics.

Sir @PaulG Llandewi Brefi is slap bang in a beautiful untouched area of mid Wales and right next to Tregaron where myself and my wife and my two daughters all had there wedding rings from (Rhiannon) so the area is special to us two and have hiked around the area in my youth.🙂
The weather in the Midlands isn't to bad September was kind but rain and cooler temps are now in control in the UK and it's starts to feel much more Autumn like as the days pass on.
My daughter lives near St David's .. lol yes thought that was funny and my eldest is now living in Korea as of last week it's been a funny few weeks and thinking of you in Texas and what a great grow you've had makes me smile and look forward to 2022.
🙂👍

Thanks for the offer, John. Think I'll focus on the long phenotype,
though. Looks like that variant has pods that reflect the PdN genetics.
It will be interesting to see what happens with those next season if
you decide to grow them out.
Rock on, brother :metal:

In spite of early season challenges, ONE PT Mystery plant managed to produce a few pods. This was the purple-to-red variety and was easily the tallest pepper plant in the garden, cresting over 6 ft. Definitely some fire in these pods.

Rich grew out an iso F4 Purple thunder Yellow/Caramel
and was kind enough to send me a gallon bag with 2-3
fingers of seed-bearing placenta in it. I cleaned them off
as much as I could before the coughing, hacking, sneezing
and runny nose forced me to stop at 25 grams of seeds.

I went out this morning and cleaned off another 3 grams
of seeds for a total of 28 gr (1 oz.) of seeds. I now have a
bag of insanely hot placenta and pepper scraps to make
a shaker full of powder! If only I needed some more powders

So. anyone up for growing out the F5 generation of the
Purple Thunder Yellow/Caramel? PM me an addy and
some seeds will be on the way. Would like to see a few
growers pursue this strain in the upcoming season. I
also have some seeds from Glen's F6 Panama GH PT,
if anyone would like to grow that out.

Many thanks to @Pepper-Guru and @Glen_ for helping to
further develop this strain of the Purple Thunder. PPATB!

Hey, @Downriver, I hope you will grow the next generation of those. Looks like a real winner!

Reading back through this thread, I noticed I hadn't thanked
the 2020 growers for their contributions to a very successful
Purple Thunder season. Very rude, my apologies. Here is a list
of those who grew PT in 2920:

*Walchit
*BDASPNY
*lespaulde
*International Fish
*Don't Panic
*Pod Lover
*Dragon's Fire
*Mr. Joe
*Devv
*Speak Polish
*Glen
*MidWest Chilihead
*B3rnd
*Thomas Deco
*Down River
*Windchicken
*Cane Dog
*Crafty Fox
*Sawyer

I hope I didn't miss anyone. A special shout out to all those who
posted their photos and progress here. I hope we can have a
big group growing out the next gen of the PT yellow/caramel
again in 2022.
