Question: Devils Tounge and Fatalii

So this weekend I was talkin to someone and they said that the Devils Tounge is a Fatalii, just another name for it but they are the same thing. Ive never heard this, and also on websites that sell seeds or plants they have the devils tounge and the fatalii sold separately and if they are the same then why are they in two categories?

let me know, thanks!

I've always thought they were separate peppers too. Still do. Everyone has an opinion, doesn't mean they know what they're talking about.

Have your friend eat one of each and then say they're the same.

Shape and color are a bit different in my opinion but I find the flavor the same. Hippy (THSC) seemed to find a difference in flavor but most people consider them the same

I think they are the same. It's hard to be EXACTLY sure because I grew what were called DT's last year, and Fataliis this year, and they seem to be exactly the same thing, but I can't do a side by side comparison.

I've grown both for a few years, the devils tongues that I grew were just a tiny bit shorter in length than the fatallis, they both had the same color , the flavor and heat tasted the same to me as well... I'm guessing that the devils tongue possibly might be a hybrid variation of fatalli... anyway, they are both really good peppers, both have the same great fruity flavor and plenty of heat...

Here's some old threads debating the same issue

Thanks, I read through these (and the other posts on this page) and have come to the conclusion that there is no conclusion! I also think that it is hard because seeds/seedlings can be mislabeled and grown as "DT" but are really "fatalii" or vise versa- bc my DT are a lot bigger than the ones pictures in the first link here next to the lighter- they are more similar to the Aussies pix (in the bowl and on his hat) in the second link.

However, not having an answer is an answer- so thanks everyone!

it depends on were they are grown in the world as to what they are called be it called Devils Tounge or a Fatalii they are one in the same its like the bhut jolokia they are also known as ghost chilli so the answer to your question is yes they are the same chilli just different names
