Hey guys is this beautiful, mouth watering, green thing root or stem?

Sorry my first time growing like this! I am unfamiliar with the structures!

is the first thing to sprout out of the seed suppose to be root or stem

the first thing to pop out is always the root. Once it establishes itself it will push up. Once it emerges from soil it's on it's a sprout.

The first thing to sprout is the radicle. The roots grow from the pointy end, the cotyledons grow from the other.
