pickling Residue floating in pickled jalapenos (storebought) ????

I haven't seen anything like this since grade school in the science lab...

has anyone got any idea what this is?...I thought at first it may be vinegar eels but am not so sure now...

pic of top of vinegar in jar...

three macro shots after pouring some vinegar out of the jar on a napkin...

they are sitting on the counter and I haven't eaten any yet...

what do you all think?
