Riddle me this.......Strange shaped pods, take a look.

I initially thought I had a plant or two that were crosses. It seems I have several other plants that are now displaying the same pod variation. The pods are elongated or stretched out. I saved seeds for the 7 Pot Jonah Butch T and the Jamaican Hot Chocolate. I just assumed the seeds were from pods that had become cross pollinated, and the traits were showing up in this crop. That was until my Naga Vipers started displaying the same characteristics. The seeds for the Naga Viper came in a seed swap. I have never grown Naga Vipers, so the chances of them being crossed and displaying the same characteristics seems very low to me. Do you guys think this could be a result of the higher than normal temperatures? Could it be caused by another environmental factor? Will seeds from these pods produce the same looking pods, or will they go back to normal when normal temps are introduced? Any theories?

I don't know Tim but those plants are gorgeous!
California doesn't have the humidity to make monster plants. Too dry.

Dave
Thanks for the info as I was unaware of how humidity plays a role with the size of the plant.

Buried uranium waste from Duke power.

Seriously though, except for the naga vipers which you have no control over being new seed. Seed that you grew from pods that you harvested in the past may be from cross pollination. Your plants are very close together and it dont appear any cross pollination precautions are in practice. I expect quite the same result from this years grow and seed that I save from the resulting pods.

Really beautiful plants there, Tim (peppernovice? - I don't think so)

I find it hard to believe that I received seed in a swap (Naga Viper) and it would show the exact same characteristics as the seed I saved from 2 years ago (7 Pot Jonah Butch T), and seed I saved from last year (Jamaican Hot Chocolate). Just seems a little too coincidental to me. I just wonder what environmental factors could contribute to pod shape/size.

My thought is those have to be cross pollinated.I don't believe the high temperatures you've experienced this season has induced the pods on these particular plants to produced elongated pods. Now if all of your plants were producing the same type of elongated pods then some serious investigation would be in order.

I am not seeing any pics.

Perhaps a link?

EDIT:

I got on the laptop, and realized it was YouTube video. Yes, I have YouTube blocked on my main rig.

Im thinking they were cross pollinated.  Is it possible you mislabeled seeds or got something mixed up.  Nice plants BTW!!!

can i ask what soil mixture you use? and what size pots those are?
I use BX Pro Mix. Pots are between 10 and 25 gallons.

It initially showed up in one plant. Now it has grown to 4 plants.

Anything is possible, but I doubt I mislabeled 4 different plants.
