sambal oelek

this is a sauce that originated in Malaysia that is suppose to have an "intense bite of fresh chiles". has anyone ever had this? what did you think? i'm pretty certain I can get this at a store not too far from my house, but was looking for an opinion on it before I bought it. this place also has the sriracha ('rooster sauce') which i will probably also get.

Sambal olek is good, it's just chiles & vinegar if i remember. Kinda chunky(small chunks). I use it in rice and quinoa, as well as lots of other things.

The sriracha is more of a puree with garlic & i think salt and sugar added.

You should definitely get both.

Neither are very hot though, but they do have a bit of heat.

Sambal Oelek is a staple in Sweden, even people who don't like it hot has it in their fridge. I have it in my fridge, but don't use it since I have other options. Sort of a wet version of the "chile powder" you find in the spice isle of your supermarket. Use it if you don't have anything else....
