Separation

The more and more I see my plants and watch them grow I can help but keep thinking "I sure hope I didnt plant these to close together". My garden here at home the plants are about 8-12 inches apart at the bas of the plant. I also have 20 plants in about a 3X7 area. Now I know that the further apart I have them the lesser the chances but if I were to save seeds is it likely that I will have a ton of crosses? How far (or close) do you all plant yours and have no or very little crossing?

Yeah, I know all about too close. I spaced mine about 18 inches apart. Here's what they look like now. Harvesting is already getting interesting! But I've maximized my very limited space, and the plants really don't seem to mind the crowding. They're podding like mad!
