SnS copycat chilli

Has anyone tried these recipes and are they even close to Steak N Shake Chilli?

I see things like 8oz cola, 1 can of condensed onion soup and coco powder come up on nearly all the recipes. Ive tried their canned chilli and to me its not the same as the stuff they sell at the restaurant. I cant put my finger on whatever it is that makes it taste the way it does, Almost reminds me of a touch of cream?

The canned stuff is definitely not what is served in the restaurants.  I have tried to replicate the chili recipe several times because there were several SnS where I grew up and I always loved their chili.  The recipe I found that is closest is here, but it's still not the same.  Thankfully SnS opened a shop not far from me so I can go pick it up whenever the craving hits.  Best of luck.  :)

Yeah that one uses creamed onion soup and all the others ive seen say condensed french onion soup. Just by the color and mouth feel, i would imagine there is some kind of dairy product in it.

The allergy warnings dont list any milk or dairy in the chilli. So im still stumped  :(

What is steak and shake? East coast only? Never heard of that one.

*gasp*

You poor western soul.  They're one of the original steakburger joints.  They practically invented overcharging for fast food, but being good enough that people paid anyway.  Draw a line straight up and down the country through Chicago.  Everything there and east is Steak N' Shake country.

So i may try some creamed onion soup or cream and heavier on the cumin....less tomato too. The acid bite is really light in their chilli and cumin seems strong.

Its a really addictive chilli for stuff like chilli mac if you grew up eatin it. Parmesan and "not so secret" sauce they add seems strange but it all works well together.

Steak and shake has good chilli huh? I wouldn't have guessed that. We got a Freddy's down the street from steak and shake so I don't eat at steak and shake very often. Plus the local hamburger joints are so much better.

They actually just opened a steak n shake about 30 minutes from me. I think they're branching out to the west coast now. i haven't been there yet though.
