Spicing up chips...

The Hot Pepper

There's really no point in buying so-called spicy potato chips when we all have a favorite pepper powders at home. Why be disappointed by the heat? I like to take my favorite flavors and spice them up.

Take Kettle Brand - Honey Dijon for example. An excellent flavor. Just add pepper powder. You get the hits of dijon, honey, and fatalii (or whatever you add).

Surprisingly it coats all the chips. You must have a a fine powder. Just sprinkle it in the bag and lightly shake.

Go for your favorite flavors instead of the heat. I know a lot of us go for the heat first.

This is a very good idea, one that I've used on popcorn quiet often. I don't know why I have never thought to do this with chips.

Well usually we seek out the jalapeno or habanero chips. Lately, I'll grab my favorite flavor instead and heat it up. Much better. Next up: salt and vinegar chips, with powder. Bet they taste like hot sauce!

Yes, good idea. I'll grind up my powder really fine and add it to many snacks. As Pepperfreak said, it's really good on popcorn. I'll take some of that butter spray on the popcorn, then add the pepper powder. My daughter-in-law like to put Franks Red-Hot on popcorn!

HOT TIP:

Dump the chips into a bowl and microwave for 20 seconds, put hot chips in a grocery bag and add your powder. Close the bag, but in a way where it's inflated with lots of air. This will allow the chips to toss well and the powder to be evenly distributed.

Shake, return to original bag....enjoy.

As PF said...it also works well with hot microwave popcorn!

i do this regularly.
other night the wife bought some cheapo snack...potato triangles, for a night in with the girls-they tasted c**p, until i added some superhot chilli powder, a little salt, & madras curry powder.
dunno what the girlies thought of them, but there was plenty left for me!!!!yum yum.

By the way, I know this is not a hot topic but I was bored lol. I know most people do this.

Yes, but I like threads like this - may learn a new 'strange' way to enjoy the heat :) The other day I read about putting pepper powder into honey and putting on vanilla ice cream! Can't wait to try it (that's one of those things I should do when my wife isn't around - she thinks I'm crazy enough when I put some powder on my salad tonight.

Whats the best way to put powder and seasonings on air popped popcorn without using butter or oil, if possible.

Thanks.

Just add it! I put a small sprinkle on dry popcorn yesterday and shook the bag. It coated everything. It must be a fine powder.

I use that butter spray stuff - no calories....probably something fake but it tastes ok - besides once you add the powder you won't tast it anyway. I also use dashes of hot sauces .... I'll shake the bag/stir the bowl, then add the powder. Sticks just fine. (have knapkins handy though)
