Starting season?

So, as my tomato season winds down, I eagerly look forward to starting my peppers. Reading that good production doesn't start until the second season, I kinda want to get a jump on things but don't want to shoot my self in the foot, too much work involved. I was wondering if the 'typical' planting schedule is 'springish'? Here in So. Cal. the winters aren't too bad although we did have a few freezing nights where I'm at this January.

Start now or wait until...'springish'

If you grow in containers, you can start anytime.  Just bring them in on the handful of freezing nights.
IMO, Fall is actually a good time to germinate small plants: It's dry enough to avoid damping, root rot, and the like, yet not so hot as to burn up young plants.  With 2+ months to get going, your plants should be well established by the time cold weather arrives.  They won't exactly show explosive growth during November~March, but they'll survive it just fine and will have a nice running start heading into the 2016 growing season.
