I can't help you on the US quarter front, though there is a lot of US currency mixed with Canadian and our money value mirrors the US(.01,.05,.10,.25 then we wiped out our dollar bills and now have dollar coins) but Canada has a lot of neat .25 cent piece backs.

Growing up, all we had was the goofy moose on the back(actually its a caribou but where i grew up we didn't have caribou). Then, we started introducing commemorative backs like the mountie and i thought that was pretty cool. Today, it seems like we introduce a new back monthly. we hosted the 2009 winter olympics and have an entire suite of sport backs.

at one time it was actually made of silver/copper mix, until the immigrants started melting them down for the silver, now they are made of steel.
