You don't need to spend your money sending me feathers Randy, though thanks for thinking of me.

You could make a few bucks selling feathers to a fly-tying shop or sporting goods store in your area. They probably wouldn't be interested in the covert or body feathers, but the Maribou feathers from the thighs, Flight Primary and flight secondary feathers and tail feathers would be what they're likely to find useful. http://globalflyfisher.com/tie-better/buying-marabou

Heh... Royal Coachmen seem to work best on Brookies here. The bright colors attract them but would spook brown Trout.

I like spinning and clipping deer hair too... it's just a bit messy, but makes great minnow heads and Bass poppers.

I still hear them gobbling all day long here, but I'm too busy to hunt. My gig was bow hunting deer when I had a place to hunt. But $2,250 a year got old, and so did I...LOL

Actually, we used them on Rainbows and Browns. We used to
fish meadow streams in southern Oregon and the Brownies
would just get huge. Heading upriver looking over the bow as
a kid, I could see Browns that looked like small logs on the bottom.
My mother used to bake the big ones, or dad would bbq them
in a rotating basket. OMG so good! The biggest he ever brought
home was a 6-pounder. Most of our fishing was catch-and-release
using barbless hooks.

During grasshopper season, both rainbows would go crazy for the
muddlers. I'd cast over to a grassy bank, then flick the muddler
from the grass into the water - often they would strike before the fly
had barely settled on the water! Sometimes we'd laugh out loud at them!

Rick I froze down the wings for shipping later.Plants have recovered in time for next week plantout.My red gochus and garlic ferment was cooked and bottled.And Ryley is still alive.lol

Cool pics of your fermented sauce... how'd you like the flavor, and how would you describe it?

If you're gonna save feathers from your bird, better that you pull them from the carcass for storage. I find that pliers work best for the flight feathers. It's OK if you break the quills on those since it's the feather barbs you want in any case. When leaving chicken feathers on a skin they usually clean the skin and feathers really well and cure the skin with borax to make rawhide. I save Deer, Squirrel and Woodchuck tails that way too... turns the hide to a really stiff leather that won't spoil if you keep it dry. Have you ever done any fly fishing Randy?

Rick tried fly fishing once.Never came back home with the cheap real
I had. Come to find out people with road rage don't handle tangled line well.

Drip line installed and tested.Cover over beds so I can pull and plant between raindrops this weekend.They said they feel safer in the weather than around the mut.

It's true that fly fishing is very different from spincasting. You're casting the line (instead of the lure) in such a way that it lays out straight on the water... no mean feat! Line handling skills and timing are what make a good fly fisherman.

It's raining to hard for me to try and mud them in.. They have been moved to the unheated porch to go one more week.
