The Health Benefits of Chili Peppers

The Health Benefits of Chili Peppers

  • Chili Peppers Fight Migraine Headaches and Sinus Headaches;
Studies show that chili peppers can provide pain relief for migraine and sinus headaches. Capsaicin, the chemical that makes chili peppers hot, is known to inhibit a key neuropeptide, Substance P, that is the key brain pain transmitter. Go capsaicin!

  • Chili Peppers Prevent Sinusitis and Relieve Congestion;
Capsaicin once again! The pepper heat helps to stimulate secretions that aid in clearing mucus from your nose, combatting nasal congestion. It also contains antibacterial properties that help fight chronic sinus infections.

  • Chili Peppers Fight Cancer
Capsaicin not only causes the tongue to burn, it also drives prostate cancer cells to kill themselves, according to studies published in the March 15 issue of Cancer Research.
According to the research, capsaicin induced approximately 80 percent of prostate cancer cells growing in mice to follow the molecular pathways leading to apoptosis. Prostate cancer tumors treated with capsaicin were about one-fifth the size of tumors in non-treated mice.
"Capsaicin had a profound anti-proliferative effect on human prostate cancer cells in culture," said Dr. Lehmann, M.D., Ph.D. "It also dramatically slowed the development of prostate tumors formed by those human cell lines grown in mouse models."

  • Chili Peppers Help Lower High Blood Pressure
Eating chili peppers are naturally high in vitamins A and C, and also bioflavinoids. They help strengthen our blood vessels, which makes them more elastic and better able to adjust to blood pressure fluctuations. Chili peppers also can make us sweat, which causes fluid loss, temporarily reducing overall blood volume.
----------------------------------------------------------------
  • Chili Peppers Fight Inflammation
Capsaicin is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. It inhibits Substance P, which is associated with inflammatory processes, much like it relieves headaches and migraines, listed earlier. Capsaicin may also one day be a treatment for arthritis, psoriasis and diabetic neuropathy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Chili Peppers Help Soothe Intestinal Diseases
A Duke University study found that capsaicin may lead to a cure for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The substance can also help to kill bacteria such as H. pylori, which can help prevent stomach ulcers.
----------------------------------------------------------------
  • Chili Pepper Can Help You Burn Fat and Lose Weight;
Did you know that capsaicin is a thermogenic? Thermogenics stimulate the body's burning of fat by increasing the metabolism of the body's adipose tissue, generating heat. So many of us can stand to shed a few pounds and lose some unwanted extra weight, so a smart and healthy move is to drop the fatty foods and replace them with some chili pepper spice, along with the inclusion of regular exercise, of course.
At Daegu University, Korea, biotechnologist Jong Won Yun and colleagues report that capsicum lowers caloric intake, shrinks fat tissue and reduces fat levels in the blood.
-----------------------------------------------------
  • Chili Peppers Have Loads of Vitamin C;
A typical chili pepper packs more vitamin C than an orange, so if you need your extra C, grab a chili pepper! How much vitamin C, you ask? A single 14 gram jalapeno pepper contains 10% of your daily needs. According to Nutrition Data, a single 73 gram chili pepper contains 83%.
----------------------------------------------------------------
  • Chili Peppers Can Warm Your Feet!
Do your feet get cold in the winter? Try this -- sprinkle powdered cayenne in your shoes. It will keep you feet nice and warm during those cold winter nights! Save money on your heating bill. Who'd have thought chili peppers could be so darned useful outside of simply eating them.

Most of the above is taken out of context,I think.

Other than the vitamin value of peppers,almost all cancer studies are in labs using different extracts directly on certain cancer cells.
Eating peppers doesn't do the same thing in any shape or form.

By the time a pepper is broken down by your digestive system it isn't the same as IN a lab treating specific cancers with whatever in a test tube.

Most cancer research was treating specific cells via extracts of specific things from peppers.
When they tried it by just feeding hots to rats and dogs(prostate cancer)it didn't work.
They haven't figured out what specific thing in peppers actually messes with some cancers.

As far as headaches etc. goes I don't know...
I can see that getting a runny nose from eating peppers as clearing up your sinuses just like Horseradish does.
Both are supposed to be good for Bronchitis etc.
I think it just increases your normal body functions.
Might help with breathing problems.
I know people who swear by Horseradish when they have asthma attacks,Bronkitis(sp?) etc.
I read it helps with sinus related headaches too.
Clears things out by making your nose run...
Fumes from horseradish work better on the lungs from what I hear from people that use it as a medicine.
It is supposed to be high in certain vitamins too,like peppers.

I'm on blood thinners,I get thinner blood tests when I eat peppers,garlic and onions(harvest times).
Fresh peppers seem to thin my blood better/more than powders.

I read you shouldn't feed your dog the above because they thin the blood...

My mother used to use the capsaicin creme they make for her Arthritis.
Had to stop using it because it started messing up her skin and stopped working.

I think a lot of the claims made by a lot of the natural medicine type stuff is a placebo effect.

Also different people digest things differently and natural stuff varies in alcaloids (sp?) etc from plant to plant.
Lab tests look cool but they generally aren't reality.
Most tests for anything are paid for by whoever so the results are published in a favorable manor to please the backer.

I eat peppers 365 days a year and I see no difference in my health generally that I can attribute to before or after I became a chile head.
I'm fat and have slightly high bad Cholesterol,actually low good cholestrerol,not high bad.
My blood pressure is a little/slightly high too...

When I have a cold I do find horseradish better at clearing my sinus and lungs than peppers for whatever reason.
Anything that gets your nose running clears things up to one extent or another.

I think the difference is the fumes from horseradish in general.
Vitamins don't hurt from any vegetable I think either.
Both are full of basically the same vitamins from what I've read.

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it. :)

Not trying to rain on your parade...

Smoke, you can't rain on my "Parade" you believe what you want to believe I happen to believe that peppers/cap oils do have a lot more health benefits than are listed here.

I have noticed my health in some ways is better than what it used to be, I have had some troubles the past couple months but thats from years of me abusing my body and now having to pay for it lol.

I was diagnosed with 3 stomach ulcers when i was 18 years old, i suffered with them for years. In my mid 20's i started eating peppers because i had heard that the cap oil in the peppers neutralise the stomach acids. 4 years ago i had to go to the DR and had a endoscopy done and my DR said i had no stomach ulcers, I told him about me eating peppers   and all he could say is that the peppers could have healed them.
