10 miles into a ride today and I hear the air go from the back tire, the spare came in handy. Just ordered 2 Kenda thorny resistant.  I love Kenda, but we have no bike shops here that carry them.

You're not running tubeless along with a sealant? I haven't had a flat in over 10 years.

Not at the moment, My rims and tires are tubeless ready, but I am retarded. This thorn came out of nowhere it was like something out of Jurassic park. It might have been a railroad spike left over from a bygone era.

You're so close, you almost have everything you need so why not go full tubeless and leave flats behind you forever.

This YT clip is a good start.
UST VALVES - The UST valves I have are these, they're not name brand but they work fine. I put an o-ring between the valve locking nut and the rim for a tighter seal.

SEALANT - For sealant, I use watered down modeling latex which you should be able to get from a decent hobby store. It's far cheaper than tubeless sealant, which is mostly the same thing. Thin it down with water so it's slightly thicker than milk, it has to be thin enough to be able to flow and coat the inside of the tyre. You can add glitter to the mix for bigger holes, but I've never had the need. I use about 2/3 to 1/2 a cup per tyre. You can use less, but it will dry out quicker and make initial sealing slow.

Note: I've used this sealant to fix holes in tubeless car and motorbike tyres with great success. You can also run this sealant in a tube and it'll self seal most holes. A kids medication syringe makes a great applicator.

TYRES - I prefer using Non-UST tyres over UST tyres, they're lighter than UST tyres and the sealant will fill all the holes in both so why not start with a lighter tyre.

What type of chain lubricant are you all running? You and sic are both in a beach environment?

For MTB, I'm using this at the moment which I've found really good so far. I'm not that close to the beach, but my favorite spot to ride is mostly gravel and I find it doesn't attract too much grit. I also used Weldtite chain lube for many years which I highly recommend, unfortunately it's hard to find places that stock it locally.

I prefer the aerosol sprays over anything else as I find they kinda foam up on contact giving good coverage and apply a thinner coat when compared to dropper types.  Always wipe off all excess after you have lubed yoir chain. Also, when choosing a chain lube, I prefer ones that dry, so dust and dirt is less likely to stick to it reducing wear.

SR.

Sure appreciate all the info:

I just need to order some presta valves, and I think i am all set. I am currently using the Tri Flow lubricant, It works really well and the scent is like bike cologne haha.

I will let you all know how it turns out Cheers!

Time to give this thread a much needed bump.
Past weekend I finished the Dryland Traverse with my wife and brother in law.
A 4 day mountain adventure trail run , 75km of serious mountain trail running.
http://drylandtraverse.co.za/route/

My brother in law shows where we must cross the mountain.

That is awesome Jacques, a beautiful trail. Looks very hard, especially that "rocky" climb. Congratulations!
Thanx ,
That top picture shows the climb on the start of day 2 , first Stage, 1000m elevation gain in the first 7km, then another 26km of running after that.

You running guys are crazy. I had a nice 201 mile Sebring training ride yesterday. I had a 21.3 mph average and that was the slowest of the group of 5. I'll need to do that twice at Sebring, lol.

By the way awesome job on shaving ten minutes that is huge.

Beautiful scenery karoo, must be awesome trailing through that.

Most of the crew from yesterday.

To put things in perspective as how hard it was for me to hang yesterday. From left to right,  3 time world record holder, racer for Bachetta, pro ultra cyclist, me the dirt bag, next two dudes are CRIT racers and then a racer for Shlitter.
