seeds Transplanting seedlings

I have started using a small spoon to help removing a seedling from a flat. That was after trying to pull one by the stem and loosing all the roots. What's your best way to remove the seedlings?

I used a knife last year. I slid the knife between the soil and the plastic on all four sides to make sure it is loose. Then I push up a little from the bottom and it slides right out.

the best way is to use a butter knife

Thank you. Sounds much better than a spoon. I'm using dixie cups with a 1/4 hole drilled on bottom as the next step from the flat. I'm going to place some in a east facing window and others in a south facing window. I want to see which window does best.
