Hey Guys,

My long reds are doing amazing. They have been outside for about two weeks now, and both of my plants have about 2 dozen pods forming on each. Only problem is, the peppers are growing like a bush and are staying really low to the ground, and I am sure that when these peppers get long, some of them will be hanging over the side of the pots, or toughing the potting mix in the soil. It seems inevitable.

I am planning on tying these up. Should I do it with a stake in the middle, or should I try to tie it to itself, kind of like raising the branches with a loop of twine that just pulls everything together?

I've never tied plants before, but I was thinking of using tomato cages if/when my potted peppers get that big. I'd like to keep my plants fairy bushy and somewhat compact. I have seen people use steaks before. Some of them are fairly hard to see, but AJ's Back Yard Pepper Porn post has a few plants with a steak in them.

Haha... Riley is a good egg. He wanted to cuddle right in the way of taking the picture, so that is the furthest away he would sit!

I am going to try tying these guys to themselves to prevent root damage.

I've used stakes before to prop up branches that were heavy with fruit. You could probably train your plant to grow up if that's what you want. Just keep an eye on the spots on the plant where you tie them off at. Don't what to be inhibiting any future growth.

Blister, stake is what you use on plants or to kill vampires.

Steak is what you eat bro.

And I'll agree, your doggy looks quite toasted.:lol:
