Venezuala varieties ???

I am curious if anyone else has noticed the focus on peppers from Trinidad and Tobago seems to dwarf interest in peppers from Venezuela.  The two nations are 7 or 8 miles away depending on where you are standing.  Thoughts?

Yes, but the focus on peppers from Trinidad and Tobago seems to mostly be on the various Scorpion and 7 Pot varieties. There are other peppers from the region, like the Trinidad Cherry and Tobago Seasoning peppers, but there doesn't seem to be nearly as much buzz about them. It seems like the focus on Trinidadian peppers is more about the superhot varieties. Maybe I am wrong, but I am not aware of any supers originating from Venezuela. So maybe that is a reason. Another reason may be the availability of seed. I am growing 3 Venezuelan varieties from Lindberg's seeds this year, But If Lindberg hadn't come on this forum and offered seeds for sale last spring, I wouldn't even have had access to those. So seeds for Venezuelan varieties are harder to come by than Trinidadian seeds. Whereas 7 Pot and Scorpion seeds are readily available from most vendors. I think the Venezuelan varieties will gradually become more available though, thanks to Lindberg sharing seeds for them. I noticed Hippy Seed Company is already selling Aji Jobito seeds, for example.

Well, that brings up another question.  Why aren't there super hots from Venezuela.  We are talking about a nation less than ten miles away from Trinidad.  You mentioned the Trinidad Scorpion.  I have to wonder if the same pepper is grown in Venezuela and it is only by happenstance that our first taste came from Trinidad, so that is the name we gave to it.  Same for the 7 pots and anything else that comes from that part of the world.  It is just so very hard to believe that anything cultivated less than 10 miles away would not be cultivated in both places.

You have to remember that Trinidad is a separate country from Venezuela. They have different priorities. Trinidad - tourism and growing cool peppers, and Venezuela - electing dictators and rioting because the oil prices won't support their socialist society.

Just a thought.
