Who made the best entree or dessert with these basket ingredients?

Entree:
  • Pork Belly (Not bacon, actual pork belly. We ask you buy raw pork belly but if all you can find is cooked or cured, that is fine, but not labeled bacon. Even Wal-Mart has pork belly products but hopefully you can get a nice cut somewhere. Asian markets have.)
  • Shrimp (Any except "prepared products", so fresh or frozen shrimp, but not fried shrimp products like popcorn shrimp, etc.)
  • Pickles (Any style of store-bought or homemade pickled cucumbers.)
  • Tater Tots (Potato gems, etc., not homemade, the point is to work from a prepared product, frozen bag or cooked, fine.)
  • Cabbage (Any one style head of cabbage, raw.)
  • Any hot pepper ingredient (of course), must be spicy as always.
  • (Mystery Ingredient) Cheese crackers. So everyone is on the same playing field please use the cheddar/orange cracker type, found as squares, goldfish shapes, etc. Any shape will do as long as they are the well known "orange" cheese cracker. These are readily available as squares, animal shapes, try to avoid the sandwich cookies if possible, you could but would not be required to use filling.
Dessert:
  • Packaged croissant dough
  • Chocolate bar (any)
  • Hot pepper powder
  • Bacon (or pork belly)
  • Pretzels

Dang, you guys! What a creative bunch we have here. I am in awe of people who can do what y'all just did. That ingredient combo was  tough.

My hat is off to all of you.

But in the end, it was strictly the method and the pictures that was the tell. So difficult to really know what the taste was like.

Let me be honest here. It was 100% the picture that got me.

I probably enjoyed his TD the most. It was fun to try and do something that I have seen on TV numerous times. Every one did a nice job and came up with some nice dishes. Hot Stuff gets my vote. The tater tot noodles along with the rest of the dish just grabbed my attention. I will take another look at the dessert entries as both looked great.

This was a very tough basket. You guys and gal all did great on the entrées.

Geeme, I think I would really enjoy those apple tart things. Very creative, as always!

 thanks, student, and the others...

Good thing is, it's easy to recreate!

A couple friends stopped by Sunday afternoon and all the fixins were out on the counter. They were eating the chocolate bits off the tray.

What's that about prize boxes???

HotStuff got my vote on the entree. Very creative with the transformation of the ingredients. I really like Chopped. So seeing the ingredients changed instead of just tossing them on or in something was a must for me. Plus it just looked awesome.

The desserts were close for me. I was leaning towards SL, but the use of garlic in the seasoning on the meat lost me. The thought of getting a taste of garlic in that dessert is not appealing to me. If it were brown sugar, I would be all up in it.

I wish I could have joined in on this one. Great job by everyone! I loved seeing all the creativity.

I had to go with Hot Stuff on the entree. For me, this was about using all the ingredients together in one and I think Hot Stuff was the most successful at that. Putting some of the ingredients into a side, like slaw, didn't quite meet the challenge, the way I see it. Plus, I loved how he transformed the cheese crackers and tater tots - great job!

Close seconds were 1010's and SnF's dishes, but TGCM's looked really good, too. I'd scarf all of them if given the opportunity.

I had to go with my own dessert on this one, in part because it got COLD here again, and apple desserts are a cold-weather comfort food for me. SL's tarts were really tempting, but I find canned pie fillings way too sweet for me. Swap out the pie filling with fresh blueberries, though, and I'd make them disappear in no time flat. Creative way to use the croissant rolls, Ann!

This was a very fun TD to participate in! Everyones dishes looked so delicious. I've never seen the show Chopped (no cable TV). In hindsight, I probably should have searched the net for an episode, to see what the judges look for, and the general flow of the show. My wife and I really enjoyed eating this dinner though, plus leftovers were fantastic. I'm looking forward to participating in future TDs, plus seeing the creative dishes everyone will come up with.

You know, I was torn between Hotstuff and SNF, I am glad to see such a close race.  Kuddos to all  that entered.  Nice job everyone.
