Youtube alternatives?

Have posted about folk angry at Youtube and how some pod reviewers are leaving.  Am curious, are there alternatives folk are going to or are they just leaving and not going somewhere else?  Found this list of alternatives for viewing, not sure if they offer the revenue or if pod n product reviewers even care about that revenue.

^ True facts. Do you want your billboard facing the freeway or the back alley..?

Well, first there was the anti racist wave at Youtube that displaced groups like Zombie Go Boom which had nothing to do with racism.  Now it seems they want everything to be kid friendly.  I wonder if maybe Youtube isn't turning itself into that back alley billboard.  Lets face it, My Space used to be the street front property.  Now it is Facebook.

Kind of wonder about Facebook too.  Did you know every post or message is read by an AI thing looking for threats and potential suicide concerns?  Not sure if they are still doing it after the outrage, but when they first rolled out their AI suicide prevention program they flat admitted it in the press.  Give it a google: Facebook AI Suicide.

The other thing that is really blowing me away is the whole fake news thing.  Evidently if enough folk tag things as fake news, online services flag them as just that.  So now reality is something we vote on.

Gotta be people that are looking for alternatives.  Yes?  No?

I just keep thinking about how fast Facebook could displace My Space.  Do you think the big boys are now so large that they can not be challenged?

This is a good point AJ. Every great idea has to start from somewhere. But youtube is very well established.. There may come a day when youtube is beat out by some other site but I really don't think it will be any time soon IMHO.

It's hard for a video hosting site to compete with one that already has all of your favorite videos on it already, and thousands added every day. There may emerge something less restrictive, but who knows, I haven't heard of one everyone is moving to or anything

People that leave you tube just ran there course or they never got as big as they wanted. Sometimes people just are not as cool as they think. So there has to be a conspiracy why they only have 10 subs. You tube ain't going nowhere. Pod reviewers bitching about some tired played out formula, lol.

Sometimes there are issues that just are not issues and no amount of talking about those issues, or those not issues, will make them become issues (or not).  When that happens it is usually time to move on to new issues (that may or may not be issues - it sorta depends), or not.

Facebook, YT, google, it's a love-hate relationship. People will bitch about privacy or ads or whatever, but at the end of the day, most will still use.

It's funny how the internet has a big "1" and the real word has a big "2" or "3". Coke/Pepsi, PC/Mac, Android/Apple, BK/McD/Wendy's, Ford/Chevy/Chrysler... but on the net, it's "1"

Bing is not a viable alternative to google. It's the "RC Cola" of search engines. Vimeo is no YouTube. Nothing compares to eBay. Twitter and FB, no viable alternatives for each. And thehotpepper.com (see what I did there. ;))

Funny because i remember when they said the thing about the internet was that small start ups could compete with the brick and mortar big boys.  Now the internet has its own big boys that nobody can really compete with.

I am thinking you already know this: The exception may be niche sites.  Have looked at lots of facebook pepper forums.  The quality of information provided here at THP is far better.  Maybe you are right.  Maybe the big boys are entrenched, but gotta figure they cant touch niche sites or they already would have.

It's kind of like asking for an alternative to google or ebay. Do they exist? Sure. Will you get the same exposure? Hell no!

Sad but true.

PLUS: Many folks that have been using Youtube for years as a significant source of income are now being "demonitized" based on their political views or their stance on certain hot social or Constitutional issues.

That is wrong on so many different levels.....but I'll refrain from delving further......as that's a conversation for the Hot Topics section.

If it gets too hot, I am sure a moderator will move it.  More work for them, sorry.  But this is turning out to be a very cool topic.  So here comes more.

What really gets me is why do I know Mark Zuckerberg's political opinions on a damn thing?  It is not just the Internet.  Why do I know what the PaPa John founder political opinion?  The Hobby Lobby people, oh damn...  they got it so my wife wont let me buy a damn thing from them.  Oh and Ophra essentially nominated a presidential candidate.

Why does it seem we care so much what these rich and / or famous people think?

Is it just because being rich and famous gives them a platform to tell us what to think?

Mostly, because they can't keep their mouths shut.......

.....and Twitter (and Facebook) is filled with bottom-feeding snipes waiting to re-post their nonsense.

Thank God for adblock and ublock.  I stream everything I watch.  Youtube is great for news clips that are commercial free and I can zero in on my politically aligned pundits and skip all the Hollywood idiots.  I still see the headlines from the idiots but can avoid clicking on them.  The search results seem to be a little less biased than it was a few months ago at least.

I tried to watch a football game over the holiday since my nephews are into it...I hadn't seen a commercial in a few years and gave up on football since the last strike.  Do you job and shut up!
Still might stream the game tonight.

I just set up my VPN with firefox plugin so I can stream the olympic venues I like with CBC and BBC...can't stand NBC's 5 min highlights, gasbags and commercials.

Brave browser is also getting better with youtube vids and Startpage always gives me good search results.

I haven't watch OTA/cable tv or paid for a movie in 5+ years.  I'm feel more up to date with the news more than ever.
