Bonsai-style wiring: worth the effort?

I read Fatalii's guide on Bonchi, if you haven't checked it out there's a link at the end of this post.
 
Anyway it gave me an idea: would it be worth it to try bonsai-style wiring techniques on a normal potted chili plant to try to increase the canopy surface area? I know idosimon has a glog here where he used the scrog technique commonly used to increase cannabis canopy size, but could this be a viable option?

I have seen a couple videos of people doing low stress training on pepper plants go over to YouTube and search it.
On all my plants the canopy spreads out by its self
