Guarita's Growing Log!

So, this is the Growing Log for my peppers! I've recently grown in interest on nuclear hot peppers so I decided to grow my own!
 
I bought a pack of seeds from an online retailer here with 40+ seeds, 10 of each of these kinds:
  • Bhut Jolokia
  • Carolina Reaper
  • Trinidad Scorpion by Butch Taylor
  • Trinidad Morouga Scorpion (don't really know if morouga or moruga I've seen both)
So I started preparing the 'nursery' over a cement mixing tray filled with brittle to support the seed starter. Then I planted the seeds each kind on two 5 units columns as it can be seen on the pictures:
 
Peppers as of: february 28th/2016

 

 
First seed to ripe: march 11th/2016 (day 12)

 
 
 
First babies: march 13th/2016 (day 14)

 
 

Growing...: march 18th/2016 (day 19)

This day I put some water gel particles to keep the soil hydrated during the Easter holidays (I was away from home during the 4 day holiday)




So we get to today: april 7th/2016 (day 39)




And this is where my seeds are located, since I'm in Brazil and I don't have the risk of frost any time of the year, I just leave them by the balcony :D. Also, temperature here generally ranges from 15ºC to 25ºC.




Oh, I'd like to ask if any of you knows what this guy is. It resembles the peppers but it seems to grow a lot faster and has a little matte aspect... I'm thinking if I should remove it... Since this is on my balcony where it is open, I'm receiving some guests... I'll try and take a picture to show you and ask if they're harmful or not :)



Well. That's it for now! If you have any tips to help grow these guys faster, stronger or better in any way please send me! I'm a total newbie on this 'growing plants thing' but I'm kinda hooked to it. Love arriving home and checking how the peppers are going! :)

Best advice for strong growth I'd have is giving them a little love and letting them do their thing... one thing that I've personally seen cause the most problems was being a bit over attentive. IE. Overfeeding, overwatering, etc. That mysterious guest looks like a weed, I'd kill it to keep it from invading your seedlings root space.
 
Thanks for the advice! I gotta really really pay attention to that one... I'm really tempted to do something about the plants everyday when I check them in the morning or after work. Now I'm holding myself to only water them every 2 days. I don't give them any fertilizers... Is it necessary or any good at this stage? I used special flower growing soil for starters as recommended somewhere on the internet. :/
 
I have the same problem with wanting to love my little pepper children, just think of them as angsty teens, you just gotta give them their space. :P
They do look like they are doing fine on nutes. As far as how you feed them many people do different methods and brands and home made shtuff. One of my favorites for a gentle fert is (used) coffee grounds as mulch. Very gentle, nice and slow nitrogen release with a very very mildly acidic hint (about 5.8-6.1) which little fellas don't mind and it is small enough your plants would be fine even if they didn't need it.

Angsty teens, lol! That coffee tip is great for me, I can easily provide it and check what happens... I'll try it next week! (since I don't stay at the apt during the weekend)

I didn't think about soil pH yet, I'll see if I can get one of those cheap pH probes to check it...

Update: I stated temperature here ranges from 15-25°C. I actually meant 15°C - 35°C (60°F to 95°F)! It gets HOT in the summer...
 
Drought on the weekend!

I watered the peppers last friday morning then went to work from where I took a bus to spend the weekend away from São José. That's how I found them sunday night. Some of them have curled leaves which I think is due to drought... I guess there was a bunch more of sunlight this weekend... Maybe I should use the water gel on the weekends just to make sure the soil won't dry during my absence (because of family/friends I rarely stay during weekends at the city where I work and where I grow the peppers).

I hope they'll recover from that...

 
Well, it's been a while....
 
I'll update last news for my GLOG:

April 27th, had some trouble with white flies
 
They left some leaves like this:
 

 
Here is one of the little b*stards:



I sprayed some neem oil 2 to 3 times a week and they're (mostly) gone! :))

Since then some of my peppers grew a lot:

May 10th/2016 (day 72)




May 19th/2016 (day 81)




There are some late sprouts (even one growing from out of the beds lol).

What do you think? Is this good progress or is it still slow? Do you guys have any tips for me?

When should I transplant them to a vase?
