#1589633 Frozen Puree - Anyone tried this?

Posted by catherinew on 25 October 2018 - 06:51 PM

OK - 6 years after my last comment on pureed peppers - and we found 1 oz. plastic containers with lids, which is the amount we usually use for hot jam and chili. Filling the small containers close to the top lessens the freezer burn even after a couple years.

Nice peppers, along with your colorful flowers. 😊 Love the look of the Thunder Mountain Longhorn.

Doesn't really look like a potato leaf tomato.

Welcome and do what midwestchilehead said. They all need to be in their own pots.

#1546466 What is wrong here?

Just what Edmick says. Be patient and give them shade for about a week with a bit of sun in between. Then slowly add full sun. Slowly.

I keep my plants under sunscreen fabric for a month after potting outside. They get both sun and shade until July, then I know they are ready for intense full sun.

#1496218 Last Harvest and Praying Mantis Eggs

Posted by catherinew on 04 October 2017 - 04:37 PM

You have a bountiful harvest and lucky to see and save the praying mantis eggs. When you decide to put them out in the garden, just make sure there's food/prey for the babies or they'll be cannibals.

#1496216 Non-organic vs organically grown taste

Posted by catherinew on 04 October 2017 - 04:34 PM

I've never grown anything but organic, so I don't notice differences. However, people will ask if there's any tomatoes left (for that day's picking) because they taste like tomatoes. One friend just commented on the broccoli I gave him awhile ago. He'd frozen it like I suggested, and when he thawed ate it with butter, the taste was so sweet, nothing like the grocery stores.

Yes, it does cost more, but Edmick has the right answer. We grow for ourselves and share with others. Why not indulge?
