For a nice ornamental I like to grow Fish; it has variegated leaves (white & green) and the pods have multi-color stripes while immature. Really nice to look at and they have a medium heat (5k-10k). Not sure exactly where you can get seeds, but they shouldn't be too hard to track down...

Nice looking system - don't you just love Lowe's buckets! When you combine aeroponics with DWC, it's called an Ein-Gedi (named after the inventor of the first commercial system of this kind) system or referred to as aerohydroponics. The General Hydroponics Aeroflo is actually an Ein-Gedi.

Tell me about the farmland...I used to live/work in St. Louis and have made the drive to Indy, it pretty much looks the same way across IL and Midwest in general. Oceans of corn and soy...we are lucky that we live at the vineyard so we have something different to look at...

The sweet spot for water temp is generally in the range of 20C-30C (68F-86F), but I agree with frosty that your nutrient solution can go outside that range without much of a problem. I use beneficial bacteria, but it doesn't really seem to matter all that much. Another good suggestion for...

I'm smack dab in central IL - roughly equidistant from Chicago and St. Louis. Where we live we have a direct route to Indy from I-74, about 200 miles away.
