    seeds Lanky Seedlings

Let there be... light! I'll post a photo shortly. I've reverted to my trusty twin tube fluoro grolux lights on top of whatever natural light they're getting... Next batch is planted too. Mmmmm...

    seeds Lanky Seedlings

I do notice that without a dome (especially in the cooler months) it makes a huge difference to the soil temp and temp variation overnight (thanks to my trusty thermometer).

    seeds Lanky Seedlings

Hey there all. I've got my next batch of seeds planted in my mini greenhouse germinator seed trays (and more to follow when / if my order shows up!) They're on their heat mats but I've foregone the GroLites this time in favour of natural sunlight (it might be Autumn here in Perth but its still...

    pests Bugs!

Well I've moved house and sadly the occupants of the ChiliTron 3000 (see http://www.thehotpepper.com/showthread.php?t=6092) didn't appreciate the lack of attention during the move and most have returned to being fertilizer :( Anyhow the "new and improved" Chilitron 3000 (now with added...

    seeds Watering Seedlings

I've got questions about watering seedlings... In our previous episode I was raising my new batch of seeds in my heated / lit Chilitron 3000. I'm very wary of over watering. I use a trigger pack to spray the seedlings (or soil before they pop up). It lives on top of the fluoro fitting above...

    Plants Update (Photos)

Still 100° ? Might be worth putting down some mulch to retain the water (I can't tell what the soil it though...)

    Cups, cups, cups.

I'm going to have to see what I can find out at the larger "landscape" garden suppliers further out of town. Oddly the local hardware giant runs a pot recycling station (drop off your old empty plant pots) - I'm almost tempted to raid it. Hey, its recycling ;)

    Cups, cups, cups.

I figure I'll need to shift my seedlings out from the seed raiser (still a good few weeks up my sleeve). Since many of the plants are eventually going to friends (either destined for pots or the garden bed) I figured I'd go for cups. The routine size will make packing them in the heated / lit...

    Chilitron 3000 (Photos)

No, 2 x 36W fluoros (GroLux by Sylvania) in a standard commercial ceiling reflector (from a dumpster). The light output is slightly pinkish and the digital camera is quite sensitive to it (not sure what the UV content of these lamps is).

None of my seed suppliers had stock :(

    Chilitron 3000 (Photos)

Well I finally finished off my "Chilitron 3000" heated / artificially illuminated seed / plant raiser so I can grow through the current West Aussie (mild) winter and be ready for action in spring... ________________________________________________________________ This is the shot of the...

Big pots with big drain holes...

I've got tons of ex-nursery pots. Problem is many of them seem to have fairly huge drain holes in them (as do many terracotta ones). I've always used spare bits of bricks, broken roof tiles and broken clay pot pieces to obstruct these giant holes to avoid my precious soil just washing out the...

    lighting Growing Lights

Envirolites? Anyone tried Envirolites or similar (have a look on eBay)? They seem to have a rather flat / broad spectrum range... I'm about to germinate a batch (indoors, heated seed raiser) and am looking at my lighting options. I've got plenty of regular fluoro battens about (and tubes are...
