When you send money, don't you want to know PayPal went through these steps to lower the chances of fraud? It is a good thing.

Had a paypal account for 10 years or more. They didn't ask for all of that crap back then.

It is a new world now though.

They wanted a copy of my SS and ID but I never got around to sending it. My account seems to work perfectly fine. I send and receive $ as well as make purchases with no problems.

They can't legally demand your SS#. They can ask, but you don't have to give it to them.

You can use my SS# if you like. 457-55-5462
