    Leaf problem, leave me alone!

Did you get those from Cal State Fullerton? They look almost identical to mine, but a little bigger than mine...and I definitely did not get the pick of the litter.. Mine had a similar issue when I first got them home and put them in direct sun. I assumed the damage was from sunburn - they must...

Peppers and Toms - Round 2

UPDATES: Transplanted the little Scorp and the Bhut into full sized pots...they had been spending days outside and nights under a 65w compact flouro I found in my garage, but I wanted to move them out permanently. They weren't rootbound yet in the cups so it may have been premature, but I'm...

seeds How hot is too hot for seed germination?

Thanks for the input guys, I've come to the conclusion that most of my issues are related to the wildly fluctuating temperatures I've exposed the jiffy pots to, and probably excessive heat the papertowel/ziplock seeds have been dealing with. And just to clarify - the 95 degrees is the...

Something nasty has got to my Thai Hot Pepper, please help!

Hey guys, I have a little Thai Hot Pepper I got from Home Depot a month or two ago. It's been doing fine in a pot outside - getting nibbled on by critters a bit, but that comes with the territory. Yesterday though, about half the leaves developed a nasty looking injury or illness, it almost...

seeds How hot is too hot for seed germination?

As some of you may know, I've been having a hell of a time germinating seeds. I've had literally 1 seedling pop up out of 16 in jiffy pellets, and gotten one tail out of another 12 or so using the paper towel method, which was planted a few days ago but has yet to poke his head out. (Hopefully...

    seeds Questions about seedling development...

UPDATE: One of my seedlings in the germinator/ humidity dome has finally popped, although its cotyledons are weirdly mangled- the tips are brown, narrow, and hard to the touch. Like litle twigs. At first I thought it had rotted...but they wouldn't be so hard in that case I think. I'm unsure...

    PaulG 2012

Looking good man! I tried to read the whole thread, but had to tap out at page 16 and jump to the end. You should have a ridiculous bounty of peppers this summer & fall.

    Question - New growth or....?

Yeah that's new shoots/branches/leaves. I pruned the heck out of my habanero and that's how they come back. Peppers are kind of amazing, they can come back from being little twigs, other plants I've worked with are not nearly so resilient.

    seeds Questions about seedling development...

The stove sounds like a good heater, and I might even try it, but my girlfriend would either kill me or set the house on fire. I'm not sure which. She's constantly using the stove or oven.

    seeds Questions about seedling development...

Thanks for the input Joe. I hit 3 weeks I think today on the seeds in the germanator, I think 10 days on the ziplocks. Keeping my fingers crossed that some pop, but If i don't see any soon I'll start more. I have a couple seeds left & considering how long the season is in So Cal a late start is...

Thanks for the input Paul! Any thoughts on how close these bad boys are to producing those root hairs you wait for?

    seeds Questions about seedling development...

Thanks Morris, I've been trying to get by without a heat mat, but I'll probably bite the bullet and buy one. I was considering a grow light when the thought struck me to go look in the garage, where the previous tenant left a bunch of junk, and my girlfriends dad decided to "give" us a bunch...

    seeds Questions about seedling development...

Hey guys, I'm growing peppers from seeds for the first time this year, and I'm having a bit of a rough time. Here's the background: My first attempt I planted some seeds in a seed germinater dome thing in Jiffy peat plugs. I think I badly overwatered it at first, and exposed it to some pretty...

hydroponic The Simple Way to Grow with Hydroponics

I'm intrigued by the passive hydro system, but my understanding was that all sorts of nasty stuff grows in stagnant water that would hurt the plants.

container How to recycle container potting mix

I don't know if you have the time or the means, but I would think composting used potting soil would work nicely, get some new organic ferts in there, and I think the hot house effect would take care of most of any nasty stuff left over from last year.

seeds I can't get my seeds to germinate?..

I've got a thought...do you know what the PH of your water is? I don't know how picky pepper seeds are in regards to water quality (ph, mineral content, chlorine/flouride levels, etc.) but its possible they don't like your water. It sounds like you're doing basically everything else right. (My...

    Having germanating 'issues'

Not that I have any expertise or particular knowledge, but it the topof the soil is moldy, I'd remove the top of the soil. If the seedlings havn't popped yet, I don't think scraping the mold of should cause any harm. And to be honest, I'm experiencing the same problem with my seed tray, I think...

Welcome from the San Fernando Valley

Hey Chef, I have a hold over Orange Hab from last year and I'm this year I'm adding a couple of Trinidad Scorpions, a Bhut Jolokia, a Caribbean Red and a Jaimacan Yellow, plus whatever seeds I can get to pop. I started a "Glog" if you want to take a peek...
